Sago Flour

Sago as a staple food and as knowledge passed down across generations.

Sago is a staple food across many parts of Papua, including the coast of Raja Ampat. Its flour is processed from the trunk of the sago palm and becomes the base for a range of everyday dishes.

Processing sago is not only about food; it is also an economic activity and a body of inherited knowledge. The photographs below record part of that process in Samate Village.
